32" L x 12" W Dated 1964 on verso, this vintage metal wall sculpture features the sharp metal points of the brutalist movement with its placement of cluters of metal squares. However, these elements mix with the more orderly aesthetic of early Modernism and its more gridlike arrangements of rectangles. The glossy black closed frame, which is not typical of a Brutalist sculpture, reminds me of a stained glass window of the Arts and Crafts movement, especially due to the artist's decision to paint the shapes with strokes of color.
The painted signature on the back of one of the metal rectangles appears to read "Le Sun" I hanged this sculpture next to a quarter-sawn Oak mirror I have and it looked fabulous! Note: this is not a contemporary reproduction, it is a vintage original from 1964!
Condition: some rust on metal bars, consistent with age. Little to no paint loss. Hang it vertically or horizontally!
