Myford Drummond M Type Metal Lathe Nice Unmolested Example With Full Guarding

  
Here we have a lovely example of the Myford Drummond M type lathe CIRCA 1940s. I guess that was the person who made the very nicely fitting easily removable guards. Back in the day I did a little research into these lathes and discovered that they were very popular as on board maintenance machines during and after WW2. Forward and reverse Dewhurst controller. Original Powerful Single Phase motor. Lever action tailstock lock (quite a novelty on these older lathes).

Oolpost easily adjustable for height and position. Toolpost mounted on a saddle which is tee slotted ideal for milling etc. Again a very useful and. Unusual feature on a lathe so small and old.

The bed ways and cross slide'table' in excellent order. 2x three jaw chucks: one keyless as mounted on lathe, the other (with key) has inside and outside jaws but is sadly cracked. Catch plate and three dogs. Set of back gears, quadrant and pins (not sure if all parts are present for this assembly). Bit of backlash in cross slide but show me one that hasn't!

3 pulley drive with Vee belt - no slipping. There has been a modification to the pinion on the traverse mechanism as pictured. Given the attention to other aspects of the machine I can only imagine this to have been'for the good'. All in all a lovely little lathe which with a bit of elbow grease and some steel wool could be one of the best around; certainly collectible.
